Multihousing Ministry

Why do multihousing

ministry?

Currently, close to 40,000 people

live in multihousing facilities in the

Amarillo/Canyon area.  According
to research done by the North

American Mission Board, at least 90% of these residents do not attend church.

This is approximately 36,000 people.

Obedience to Matthew 28, tells us to go and the perspective of Acts 1:8 tells

us to reach those in our Jerusalem.  The multihousing facilities in the

Amarillo/Canyon area are truly harvest fields ripe for the harvest.

Since this ministry has began, we have encountered both children and adults

who had almost no knowledge at all of the message of salvation.

Children are hearing for the first time that God loves them and wants

to have a relationship with them.  Adults are learning of the grace of God

and His restoring power.  We have found high numbers of internationals

at these properties, as well.  In some cases, most of the residents are

from overseas.

As you can see, the opportunities to reach people for Christ are endless.

We are simply praying for the Lord of the harvest to send workers

into His harvest field.

How does it work?

The outreach is accomplished
through a partnership with area churches.  Churches are asked to
adopt a property and begin
ministries that will allow them
to build relationships with the residents.  Some examples
of this would be, single mom’s
support group, children’s after school program,
weekly Kids Club, ESL classes,
or any other activity that meets a need on the property.

Jeff Parsons, multihousing ministry facilitator for the Amarillo Baptist
Association, will be a coach, resource, and a participant when needed,
in order to keep your ministry productive and effective
.

How do we get started?

First of all, contact Jeff Parsons at the Amarillo Baptist Association.  Jeff
will meet with church staff and interested lay leadership to explain some
of the basics of multihousing ministry and take you step by step through
the process of starting ministry on a property.  Currently, bible studies are
occurring on six properties and permission has been obtained to start activity
on 10 additional sites.  If you have a property in mind, Jeff will help you obtain permission to start ministry and continue to work with your ministry team and property management to keep things going.  If you don’t have a property in mind,
Jeff will pray with you regarding which of the 10 other properties God has
selected for your church.  He will also make you aware of any resources and
training that may be available to prepare your ministry team for the work at hand.
